LES CHEMINS DE LA CREATION

PERSONAL STATEMENT - NOTES DE TRAVAIL

ABOUT MY ARTWORK

I create a wide array of artwork in many mediums. Most of my work, though, I create using ink, oil, acrylic paint, found scraps of paper and WORDS, and PHOTOGRAPHY.

My artwork aims to explore the shifting and often precarious balance which exists between the written word and the VISUAL IMAGE. I play around with STORIES and PICTURES, how we understand them, how they affect our thoughts and memory and how they affect my own life and emotions. In playing with these stories I exploit and explore the ways in which narratives are constructed.

When I'm creating my artwork, I like to mix COLLAGE, writing and photography. I use «wordboxes » and « pictureboxes » as raw material. I also use old books, maps, blueprints, scale drawings…any printed material. I create collage-paintings and I practice performance-writing in the "DADA" movement style.

With my VISUAL POETRY works, I like to show the relationship between the words as a SIGN and the meaning's attached the same word (the relationship between signifier and signified). I like to explore how words can be read on many different levels and how these reading can lead to a global meaning.

To present my work, I find that PUBLIC READINGS are a wonderful way to explore the emotional energy that exists between me as artist and the public as a spectator. I feel that my art reaches its potential when I perform for an audience. When others can feel the sound of my VOICE and when my WORDS become emotions, I sense a profound CONNECTION with my listeners.

Very interesting statement. There are many aspects in your work that I love: especially the relation Image vs Text, and also the versatility of the mediums you work with. This is what I support with my both hands. :)

Thanks for the comment and thanks for the support ! I think it's important to put words and thoughts about its own work.

"artist statements" are notoriously difficult to write, so hats off to you!

A year ago a Friend of mine tagged me with a "10 Honest Things About Your Art" - that was a nice opportunity to reflect upon my own art which in result turned out to be a quite big piece of writing, with some deep thoughts. :D Indeed, it was an enriching experience. Sometimes, such a summary can be a real milestone on the way of progress. :)
